What size snuffle mat does your dog need?
Too small and the meal is over in a minute. Too deep and a small dog can't reach the food. Size and pile depth matter more than looks.
By dog size
Under 10 kg: roughly 40 × 40 cm with a shallow to medium pile. 10–25 kg: around 50 × 50 cm, medium pile. Over 25 kg: 60 × 60 cm or larger, medium to deep pile.
When in doubt, size up. A bigger mat spreads the same portion thinner, and thinner means longer.
By portion size
A rough rule: one cup of dry food per 40 × 40 cm of mat. Two cups on a small mat becomes a pile your dog can shovel rather than a field it has to search.
By muzzle length
Flat-faced breeds — Frenchies, Pugs, Bulldogs, Shih Tzus — need shallow strips. Long-muzzled dogs cope with deep pile and enjoy the extra work.
Practical bits
Check it fits your washing machine, and check the underside is non-slip or plan to put a rubber mat beneath it.
